Our affiliate marketer shared with us his case study. He tested the Pre-Roll ad format for a dating smartlink with traffic from Germany. So, without further ado, let's move on to the case.

Intro

I used web push and banner ad formats on ClickAdilla for a while now to convert various dating offers. But I was seeing a drop in conversions, so my account manager in ClickAdilla recommended that I test the Pre-Rolls.

I've never used dating video ads before. Moreover, I didn't have any suitable video creatives. So here are the results of my first dating smartlink test with video pre-rolls.

Dating Smartlink

Dating is an evergreen and versatile niche that can bring profit at any time. I really love smartlinks because you don't need to spend time analyzing the effectiveness of each offer. The affiliate network does this job for me. Payout per conversion is decent - varies within $2.5 - $7.5

Surprisingly, video ads showed excellent results, especially in the first 2 weeks. Conversion rate was about 0.07%. By the end of the fourth week the number of conversions dropped to 0.01%. So I stopped the campaign.

Anyway, I am thrilled with the results: I spent $239.15 and earned $541.92

I bought pre-roll traffic at the minimum bid. CPM was $0.15

Targeting

I’ve targeted all devices: mobile, tablet and desktop. I’ve not used any other targeting options. Later I added some sources to the blacklist for campaign optimization. That’s all. But still, I will consider creating a separate campaign for each device in order to analyze the effectiveness of each of them.

Conclusion

The biggest challenge is finding fresh traffic that hasn't been used by affiliate marketers yet. For newcomers I advise to experiment with new ad formats.

Surprisingly, video ads aren't just about brand awareness. Pre-Rolls can generate leads for affiliate offers too. Now I’m scaling the approach described above to other GEOs.
